Classes

Here are the list of courses we currently offer (summer 2022). Information regarding the curriculum/schedule can be found here. Classes are currently ongoing, but you can still join here. Links to the meeting rooms can be found here.

Contest Math

Contest Math is for elementary to middle schoolers hoping to prepare for contests like MathLeague and TMSCA, as well as those who are interested in AMC 8-level concepts. Prequisites: familiarity with algebra, geometry, and basic counting techniques (equivalently, being able to solve 7-8 problems on AMC 8).

Algebra & Geometry

Algebra 1 and Geometry aim to prepare the student for courses they might encounter in middle/high school. These classes will start from the very basics and work their way up to intermediate topics. Prequisites: understanding how to solve simple equations like $x+2=4$, familiarity with integer operations (PEMDAS) and the number line, or having previously taken 4th-5th grade Math.

Biology & Physics

Biology and Physics are courses designed for those curious about science (e.g. hoping to learn a bit of “high school” material at a simpler level) or interested in taking part in TMSCA Science or Science Bowl competitions. Through these classes, you’ll gain an understanding of assorted topics in each of these subjects. Prequisites: having previously taken 2nd-3rd grade Science.

Java

Java is for anybody interested in learning to code and the basic skills associated with it. Students are expected to have JDK and IntelliJ downloaded before the class, but the teacher will instruct students on how to use an editor to write code. Prequisites: familiarity with basic algebra is expected but not required.

Argumentative Writing

Argumentative Writing covers some of the techniques necessary for forming and supproting an argument. The class will specifically focus on literary devices and rhetoric utilized in speeches and argumentative pieces. Prequisites: having previously taken a 4th-5th grade English course or equivalent.

Chess

Chess covers the fundamentals of the game as well as basic tactics and defenses necessary for a beginner chess player. Prequisites: familiarity with chess rules.
